Latest prison problems boost calls for special prosecutor, housecleaning at Corrections

The latest revelations in Nebraska’s prison fiasco brought more calls for a special prosecutor, a legislative investigation and a housecleaning at the Department of Correctional Services.

A World-Herald investigation on Sunday revealed that state officials did not fully address the prison sentences for about 51 prisoners who racked up hundreds of criminal charges while they should have been in prison. As a result, the state essentially vacated about 113 years of prison sentences.
