Shaer said Woodrich was serving a 35-year sentence for murder in Cook County and was in disciplinary segregation at the time of her death. She had been investigated for allegations of either harming or posing a threat to harm the safety and security of other inmates, Shaer said. She had been on suicide watch in the past but had appeared to be stable prior to her death and had discussed returning to the prison's Helping Paws dog-training program, Shaer said. On the day of her death, she returned an empty lunch tray around 1 p.m., and cell units are walked every 20 to 30 minutes, Shaer said. Read More. |
