NY prison returns stay near 40 percent |

ALBANY, New York — New York corrections officials say their latest data show 9 percent of ex-offenders released from prison in 2010 were sent back within the next three years on new felony convictions. The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision says that's the lowest recidivism rate since authorities began monitoring in 1985. The report on 24,605 state prisoners set free in 2010 shows 42 percent or 10,217 did return to custody, most for repeat violations of parole conditions that can include required meetings, drug programs and curfews.
