Death row inmate who killed off-duty Jackson police officer dies

JACKSON, Miss. —Mississippi officials say an inmate on death row has died of natural causes.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections said Tuesday that 52-year-old Kenneth Davis, of Jackson, died Monday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Corrections spokeswoman Grace Fisher said Davis became ill early Monday and was taken to the facility for treatment.

Davis was sentenced to death on March 15, 1991, for fatally shooting off-duty Jackson Police Officer Bobby Joe Biggert during an armed robbery in 1989. Biggert walked in as Davis was robbing a south Jackson pawn shop and was shot in the head.
