Jobseekers learn about corrections department |

SIDNEY — It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it. On Monday, about 120 candidates gathered at Montcalm Community College (MCC) to learn more about what it takes to be a Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) officer. With the MDOC planning to hire as many as 4,000 new officers within the next five years, recruiting efforts are a priority for the department, according to MDOC Officer Shane O’Brien, who was on hand with fellow officers Eric Riggs, Sheila Spencley and Deanne Holdsen to answer questions. “We’re here to let people know what it’s like to work for the Department of Corrections and guide them through the process,” O’Brien said. “Basically, we can show them what they need to do to get a job with the department.” Read More. |
