Colorado prison population is spiking amid high recidivism rate |

The state prison system is in for a multiyear spike in the inmate population as Colorado's recidivism rate remains high, according to a new report. The total census at 20 state-run and four privately run prisons is expected to rise by 4 percent to 21,354 prisoners by 2017, according to a projection by the Division of Criminal Justice and the Colorado Legislative Council. The Colorado Department of Corrections is asking for a 4 percent, $29 million budget increase for next year to $749 million. Read More. |
