| Pilot rehabilitation program shows success |

Dearborn/Ohio County prosecutor Aaron Negangard, Southeast Indiana Regional Community Corrections (SERCC) and the company Corrisoft are creating a new model in offender rehabilitation, according to an Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council, Indianapolis, news release. The new approach catapults beyond traditional monitoring of offenders on home detention or work release with a high-touch approach afforded by smartphones and other technology that allows personal intervention when offenders need it most. The 11-month pilot program that runs through June 30, 2015, is funded by the Indiana Department of Corrections and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. Early indications are the program may put some offenders on a different life path, one that will enable them to avoid negative influences while gaining new behaviors resulting in solid employment that pays for shelter and necessities for their families. Here’s how the program works for SERCC that includes Dearborn, Ohio and Switzerland counties: Offenders who are assigned to work release or home detention programs receive a smartphone and AIR Connect™ monitoring device with GPS tracking. The technology allows real-time monitoring with interaction between the offender and Corrisoft offender support specialists.
