DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 Utah) - News crews ventured deep into the Utah State Prison, Thursday, seeing what prison staff call, "deplorable" and "outdated" conditions, firsthand. While lawmakers continue trying to relocate the prison, some say it is better off staying in Draper. Now, those who run the prison are taking their turn to make a statement, and they did that by offering media tours. If you think the prison looks dilapidated on the outside, wait until you walk inside. The Utah Department of Corrections is trying to keep the facility clean and running right, but employees say there is only so much they can do. From outdated piping to limited cell space, the list goes on and on. It is safe to say the Utah Department of Corrections is facing some challenges accommodating the 7,000 prisoners currently in the system, and it is no wonder.
