Multiple law enforcement agencies were called Monday morning to help apprehend an inmate who escaped from McLean County Jailer Mike "Red" Sallee's custody.

According to the Kentucky State Police, Ronald T. Hardrick, 51, of Henderson was being transported to McLean County for a court appearance when he managed to open the vehicle's backseat door shortly after 8 a.m. near Sebree.

Sallee said he was "shocked" when Hardrick jumped from the moving car.

"I was about to come to a stop sign but I was still going about 10 to 15 mph," Sallee said. "I had another inmate with me and we're trained to stay with the car. I just yelled for him to come back and then I called dispatch."
