A search for an escaped inmate was called off around 7 p.m. Thursday after Monquez Jackson was recaptured in the wood line off Osprey Cove Drive near River Road, authorities said. Dwight Hamrick, warden of the Muscogee County Prison, said a resident in the area directed an officer to check out a man who was believed to be the escapee. Cpl. Jason Griffin and Cpl. Larry Daniels of the Columbus Police Department discovered it was Jackson and took him into custody without incident. Jackson, 25, of Albany, Ga., had been on the lam for about three hours since his escape from a work detail around 4 p.m. at the Granite Bluff Landfill. A felony escape warrant will be issued for Jackson today at the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office. He will be transferred to nearby Rutledge State Prison and placed in administrative segregation pending the felony charges. Read More. |
