Panel Discusses Illinois Prison Reform

Criminal justice reform remains at the top of Governor Rauner's agenda. Wednesday night a member of his staff sat in on a panel discussion about what could be done, to lower the state's prison population.

The panel was hosted by the Illinois Policy Institute, an independent government watchdog group.

Experts weighed in, saying Illinois is not alone in the prison population problem. They offered solutions, that would save taxpayers money, and keep prison employees safe.

On the short list of Governor Rauner's top priorities is reforming Illinois' prison system after a recent visit to the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln.
