Sierra Conservation Center riot includes over 150 inmates

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) released more information yesterday may 20, regarding the riot which occurred on Tuesday evening on May 19, 2015 at the Sierra Conservation Center (SCC). More than 150 inmates were initially reported as involved in the melee, however, today MML reports an updated figure of nearly 200 inmates were involved in the riot.

The CDCR reports there were no injuries reported by prison staff in the riot and only two inmates required immediate hospitalization. The two unnamed inmates were transported by air ambulance to hospitals outside the area. Both are reported as being in stable condition including one who required surgery. Five other inmates were injured, but were sent to local hospitals and will be released to the prison when appropriate.

The minimum security section of the A-Facility main exercise yard at the prison, where the riot occurred, is now under a "modified program' according to prison spokesman Lt. Robert Kelsey. Lt. Kelsey explained the modified program as:
