N.J. commemorates fallen corrections officer who was killed 18 years ago |

New Jersey Corrections Officer Frederick Baker was just 35 years old when he was stabbed to death by an inmate 18 years ago but his presence is remains. Baker, who was in duty for 10 years, was killed on July 30, 1997, but his life was commemorated during a special ceremony that was held at Bayside State Prison in Leesburg Thursday. Baker was working at Bayside State Prison in Cumberland County when he was murdered. NJ Department of Corrections staff, members of Baker's family, and elected officials were present for the remembrance but even more, July 30 was designated as Corrections Officer Day in the state in an effort to recognize officers and honor those who were killed in the line of duty.
