Helping inmates transition into a normal life after prison is the goal of a two-day summit in Homestead this week. Corrections officials attending the Southwestern Pennsylvania Re-entry Coalition's Life Without Bars conference in the Waterfront on Thursday said readjusting to a life with employment, family and a stable place to live is something that should begin while a person is in prison and continue when they are released. A panel composed of federal, state and county officials discussed the state of re-entry programs and said progress is being made compared to just a few years ago, but more work needs to be done to reduce a return to prison. It will culminate with a career and resource fair open to the public at 3 p.m. Read More. |
