| Man convicted of raping teen at Lake Springfield dies in prison |

LICKING, Mo. - A Springfield man convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl at gunpoint has died in prison. David Owen, spokesman for the Missouri Department of Corrections, said 53 year old Larry Mahoney died early Wednesday at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking. Owen said Mahoney's death was "unexpected," and an autopsy would be performed. He said the department does not suspect foul play. Mahoney was serving a 40-year sentence for two counts of forcible rape, three counts of forcible sodomy and kidnapping from Greene County. He has been in prison since 2001 when he was sentenced for raping the girl repeatedly near Lake Springfield in 1999. Read More. |
