State 'desperate' for volunteers in prison offices |

CONCORD - The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announced it's "desperate" for workers to manage records, "do basic computer work" and answer telephones at its headquarters in Concord, as well as at the state prison for men. The pay being offered by the state, to work in corrections department offices, is zero. "It's not ideal," said Jeff Lyons, spokesman for the state corrections department. "Obviously, we'd prefer to have fully-certified paid staff in these jobs, but we'd have to have more money in the budget." Lyons said unpaid interns were scanning corrections department documents over the summer, but left to go back to college. He said there are "huge boxes of documents" in corrections offices that need scanning and filing, but, "We don't have the staff to move these documents." Read More. |
