ALBANY – New York’s prison system doled out more than $1 million for meals, travel and other related costs associated with the three-week search for a pair of inmates who escaped from a maximum-security prison. The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision spent a total of $12.6 million on the search for David Sweat and Richard Matt, which ended in late June after Matt was killed and Sweat was shot and re-captured. The bulk of that cost — about $11.6 million — went toward overtime for prison personnel, which had been revealed by the state Comptroller’s Office last month. The remaining $1 million went toward miscellaneous expenses related to the massive manhunt, including $471,342 for services, $263,768 for supplies, $178,175 for meals and $141,769 in travel costs.
