The Mississippi Department of Corrections has donated 1,500 confiscated phones to help combat domestic violence. In a press release issued Monday, Verizon Wireless announced it had partnered with MDOC and the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence to benefit HopeLine, a nationwide program sponsored by Verizon. HopeLine collects "no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries, chargers and accessories in any condition, from any service provider, and turns them into support for local shelters and nonprofit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention, awareness and advocacy," the release said. The donation culminates planning that began in March and was spearheaded by Mississippi SAVIN and the Division of Victim Services. Read More. |
