PEORIA, Ill. -- More inmates are being cut loose across the state as lawmakers look to reduce the prison population. Gov. Bruce Rauner wants to reduce the state's inmate population by 25 percent over the next 10 years. He said reducing the number of people in prison will save the state millions and make prisons safer. Statistics from the Illinois Department of Corrections shows the number of parolees in the state has increased by 14 percent over the last four years.
