BURLINGTON — Vermont State Police say one of the four people allegedly involved in a December blaze in Northfield in which a couple was doused with gasoline and set on fire, killing the woman, has died while in custody. Police say Kevin Atwood, 25, suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday while in his cell at Northwest State Correctional Facility in Swanton. Police say Atwood was found unresponsive and was the only inmate in the cell at the time. Police say he was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington for treatment, but was taken off life support Sunday morning. The incident is still under investigation and police did not say what the nature of his injuries were or what caused them. Read More. |
