Ailing Sherman escapee might avoid Georgia prison |

Georgia prison officials have accepted a plan to let a Sherman man avoid extradition to the prison system he escaped in 1968 — if Connecticut officials agree to supervise him. Robert Stackowitz lived a quiet life in Sherman as an escapee who had 15 years left on his sentence for armed robbery, as previously reported by Hearst Connecticut Media. Now reportedly in poor health, he still faces a possible return to Georgia Department of Corrections custody. But Stackowitz has passed a major hurdle from the seat of his wheelchair as he lobbies for Connecticut to keep him and to avoid an immediate return to a jail cell. Read More. |
