Disturbance reported at Varner prison unit |

According to Department of Corrections spokesman Solomon Graves, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, correctional officers at the Varner Unit in Grady began responding to a disturbance in one housing area within the unit. Approximately a dozen inmates were involved in breaking barracks windows and setting small trash fires within the one housing area/barracks. Graves said correctional officers were able to regain control of the situation. One correctional officer received a minor injury that did not require hospitalization.
