Southern State inmate flown to hospital after fight, officials say |

MAURICE RIVER TWP. -- An inmate at Southern State Correctional Facility had to be taken from the prison for medical treatment late Saturday morning after a fight, authorities said. According to New Jersey Department of Corrections spokesman Matt Schuman, a fight took place between two inmates early Saturday morning, shortly before 9 a.m. The fight was broken up by the facilities staff, he said. More than an hour after the fight, one of the inmates began exhibiting signs that were concerning to medical personal, Schuman said. He said a medevac was called in for the inmate so he could be taken to a medical facility for further treatment. Read More. |
