Officers, inmates transferred from aging prison near Hagerstown |

ANNAPOLIS — Dozens of correctional officers and hundreds of inmates have been transferred from the Maryland Correctional Institution near Hagerstown, but state officials said no correctional officers are losing their jobs. It is part of a plan to concentrate prisoners and correctional officers in better facilities for more efficiency, officials said. Gary W. McLhinney, director of the Office of Professional Standards in the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, said Thursday that 45 correctional officers had been transferred in the first of two phases of population shifts from the prison.
