WILSON, Okla. (KXII) -- "Cadets stand at attention," says an Oklahoma Department of Corrections instructor. The old DOC center in Wilson has been renovated as a training facility for soon-to-be prison guards. "To equip the cadets here with some knowledge and a lot of skill base with some practical application so that we feel that they can take care of themselves, presented in any situation they may face in a correctional facility," says DOC Training Director Ken Klinger. "It's great! It's kind of one of those new things were you work out all the kinks and I mean its going well, very well since we've been here," says DOC Training Cadets Zak Davenport and Sharmin West. The program is eight weeks long. This first class currently has a total of 52 cadets, but the new facility can hold up to 72 recruits. Read More. |
