BRIDGEWATER – A nurse and three corrections officers were injured by a patient at Bridgewater State Hospital on Tuesday.

The patient, who was not identified, charged a nurse from behind and punched her hard enough to knock her to the ground, according to Massachusetts Department of Correction spokesman Christopher Fallon. The patient then began to kick the nurse.

Eventually, the nurse was able to get away and officers responded. At least one of those officers was also hit in the face. A total of three officers were hurt.

The state Department of Correction said the nurse suffered injuries to her head and knees. She was taken to a hospital emergency room for treatment.
