Feds investigating social media restrictions on Alabama Department of Corrections staff |

The National Labor Relations Board is investigating a sweeping social media policy instituted Dec. 1 by the Alabama Department of Corrections. The new regulation has raised concerns about employees' free speech rights because it imposes broad limits on what they can post on social media platforms. The policy is now under federal investigation after an employee filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board in January alleging that it violates the National Labor Relations Act. "Within the previous six months, the Employer has interfered with, restrained, and coerced its employees in the exercise of rights protected by Section 7 of the Act by maintaining work rules that prohibit employees from discussing wages, hours or other terms or conditions of employment," the employee wrote in the complaint.
