Davidson County officers train to support inmates with mental illness

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Davidson County Sheriff's Department is leading the nation in keeping people with mental illness out of jail.

It's now the first in the country to require correctional behavioral health certification for jail workers.

As announced last year by Sheriff Daron Hall, the new jail currently under construction will feature a dedicated center for mentally ill inmates.
