| Law enforcement investigating inmate death at Aiken County jail |

An investigation is currently underway into an inmate's death at the Aiken County detention center Sunday. The Aiken County Coroner's Office announced that James B. Oakman, 57, of Aiken, was found unresponsive in his cell around 11 a.m. Sunday by a detention officer conducting a routine check. Cpt. Nick Gallam, jail administrator, said detention officers and onsite medical staff performed life saving measures until Aiken County EMS arrived. Read More. |
