Barnwell has a new police chief. The City Council unanimously approved hiring Brian Johnson as chief of Barnwell Police Department earlier this week. Johnson, who was a captain in the department, had been serving as interim chief since Ruben Black was terminated by the council in February amid a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigation.
