| Florida Department of Corrections announces hiring bonuses |

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Florida Department of Corrections announced Thursday that new hires who complete correctional officer certification will get a hiring bonuses. FDC is giving $1,000 to hires who completed their certification through the FDC or certain state colleges. Institutes in our area eligible to get the bonuses are Apalachee Correctional Institution, Franklin Correctional Institution, Gulf Correctional Institution, Northwest Florida Reception Center, and Baker Correctional Institution. The department says the hiring bonus is part of a three-tiered approach targeting staff recruitment and retention. The plan was recommended by Governor Rick Scott and approved by lawmakers.
