Escaped inmate back in custody thanks to help of concerned resident

James Herron Jones, an inmate who escaped from the Pittsylvania County Jail and led authorities on a two-day manhunt, was captured late Saturday night thanks to the help of a concerned resident, the sheriff’s office announced.

Devin Taylor, an investigator with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, wrote in a news release that a resident saw a suspicious man in her community and called police.

While Taylor did not specify where the woman saw the suspect, he said Pittsylvania County deputies and members of the Chatham Police Department responded to the Valero Convenience Market in Tightsqueeze and took Jones into custody without incident.
