Clearfield County Jail physician Dr. Lawrence Levinson wants to add additional drug treatment programs at the jail in an effort to slash re-incarceration rates
On Monday at the prison board meeting, Levinson reported the number of inmates at the jail with an opiate addiction has increased significantly over the past three to five years, and he said many of the inmates return to using drugs after they are released — and up becoming re-incarcerated.
Opiates are drugs derived from opium and include illegal drugs like heroin as well as prescription painkillers such as Fentanyl and Oxycontin.
