|Police: Body scanner snags contraband on inmates|
La PORTE — Any doubts about the practicality of an airport-like body scanner in La Porte County Jail were quickly put to rest with the discovery of contraband on two inmates in the first week the machine was used.
“You don’t hide anything with this device,” jail commander Capt. Derek Allen told reporters who packed into a room off the booking area to see the scanner Thursday.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department put the body scanner into service on Nov. 20 after jailers were trained how to use it, Allen said.
