| Dane County $27.7 million inmate medical care contract OK'd |

A $27.7 million inmate medical care contract was renewed last week with Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney saying the company has helped decrease suicides and drug/alcohol withdrawal issues at the jail. But some Dane County supervisors are concerned about Correct Care Solutions’ track record in other jails and how the for-profit company is making money from inmates. Supervisor Heidi Wegleitner referenced a Mother Jones investigation that showed that five of 20 opioid withdrawal deaths in a two-year period were in jails that contracted with Correct Care Solutions. Inmates’ death was blamed on lack of medical staff. A nurse that works at the Brown County Jail in Green Bay told the magazine that there is only one nurse for 700-plus inmates during the evening shift. Read More. |
