Inmate fakes seizure, attempts escape in Belmont County

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — A Belmont County inmate is in custody once again, after trying to escape.

Robert McMasters, a prisoner in the Belmont County Jail, was transported to the hospital after claiming to having a seizure and hurting his head. Once inside the hospital, Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas says that McMasters's demeanor instantly changed.

"The inmate was non-responsive and portraying that there was something serious,” Lucas said. “Then all of a sudden, the person jumped up off of the cart, and took off running full speed and tried to evade and escape from the officer."
