| Family Connections Center Receives Large Book Donation |

(Concord, NH) A Vermont based non-profit organization that advocates for reading has donated 3,500 books and other resources to the New Hampshire Department of Corrections Family Connections Center for parents who are incarcerated in order to assist them in building positive relationships with their children. Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) provided a generous $39,800 donation that will allow the Family Connections Center to hold literacy seminars and family literacy celebrations inside the Department’s correctional facilities during which the parents and their children can get together and explore the exciting world of reading. CLiF has partnered with the Family Connections Center for many years by providing books that can be given to the children of persons in our custody as well as to help educate the parents on fun ways to read out loud and interact with their children. Some of those tips include creating interesting character voices and asking their children to talk about their understanding of the book. For 20 years, the Family Connections Center has educated and supported parents in the custody of the Department of Corrections during their physical separation from their children due to their incarceration. It operates at all three of the Department’s prisons. It is dedicated partners like CLiF who help our department continue to pave paths for parents to maintain and improve their relationship with their children.
