|Inmate Accused of Stabbing Jailer in Head With Crafted Shank|
TUPELO, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi inmate is accused of stabbing a Lee County Jail corrections officer in the side of the head with a 4-inch makeshift knife.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports 22-year-old Johntavius U. Trice is charged with aggravated assault on an officer. Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says Trice was in the jail's common area for dinner Sunday evening when he attacked the officer.
He says the attack was premeditated based on surveillance video that shows Trice stabbing the officer in between the left temple and ear. Trice attempted to stab the officer again but was shocked with a stun gun by another jailer and stopped.
