Latest update on suspected overdoses at Haynesville Correctional Center

RICHMOND – The Haynesville Correctional Center inmates who were sent to local hospitals Saturday evening as a result of suspected overdoses at the prison have all been released.

One of the eight offenders, Steven L. Anderson, was pronounced dead at 8:32 p.m. Saturday, June 15. The overdoses were discovered around 7:15 p.m. Saturday.

The investigation is ongoing as to what the suspected drug was and how it was introduced into the facility.

Six of the seven offenders were released from Riverside Tappahannock Hospital and Rappahannock General Hospital on Sunday, June 16 and the last offender was released from Riverside Tappahannock Hospital early Tuesday morning, June 18.

A medical examiner will determine cause of death for Mr. Anderson.
