WORTHINGTON — A Brewster man has been sentenced to one year in jail for possessing controlled substances.

In an agreement made with the state, Joshua D. Rutgers, 35, pleaded guilty to two gross misdemeanor counts of fifth-degree drug possession related to an April 2019 incident last spring in which methamphetamine and non-prescribed Alprazolam were discovered. Two felony-level charges that accused Rutgers of making death threats to two individuals were dismissed as part of the agreement.

Rutgers was sentenced to 365 days in jail, 65 of which will be stayed during a two-year probationary term. Per the terms of his probation, Rutgers was given a 300-day jail sanction.
