| Inmate Attack Causes Prison Lockdown At Michigan Facility |

Michigan State Police are investigating an inmate attack on security aides early Sunday morning at the Huron Valley Correctional Facility. The facility will be under lockdown until an internal investigation is complete. Police said two inmates assaulted several security aides using metal towel bars that had been taken from cell walls. The employees called for assistance, and guards came and restrained the inmates. While the officers were restraining one of the inmates, a third inmate left his cell and attacked the officers, state police said. They said that he was quickly subdued. Three officers were hurt. Two were taken to Saline Community Hospital where they were treated and released. Another officer suffered more serious injuries and was taken to St. Joe's Hospital in Ann Arbor. 'It was clear they had something else in mind,' Dr. Roger Smith of Forensic Mental Health Services said. 'They had taken sheets and ripped it into strips and had woven those strips into ropes.' The issue the facility is concerned with is removing the furniture. |
