Nebraska inmate Neil Gray has won $102,000 on Powerball -- The Game Show, but he can't spend it on much more than cigarettes and snacks.
He was in jail when he learned that a Powerball scratch ticket he purchased last summer was drawn Oct. 27 to be eligible to compete for $1 million in prizes on the game show.
Gray's father, John, attended the show in Hollywood and brought back Gray's winnings, according to The North Platte Telegraph.
Now, Gray, 25, of Keystone can use his prize money to buy things like cigarettes, snacks, a television set and other small items from the canteen at the Omaha Correctional Center. The first date Gray could be eligible for parole is May 18.
In an agreement with prosecutors in which two other charges were dropped, Gray pleaded guilty to third-degree assault of a police officer. He was sentenced Nov. 9 to 1 1/2 to three years in prison.
Gray was in the Keith County Jail when the Nebraska Gaming Commission told him the ticket he had purchased was eligible to compete for prizes on the game show.
Ten lotteries across the country participate in the show and offer the instant Powerball scratch game.
