Informal cooperation among Colorado's county sheriffs is saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, perhaps millions, a year. Their network, Transports Across Colorado, functions much like a shuttle service, coordinating reciprocal delivery of inmates between jurisdictions. For instance, if Logan County officers are picking up an inmate in Baca County, which also has an inmate destined for Boulder County, and Logan County also is picking up an inmate awaiting transfer from Denver County, the Logan County deputies could deliver the inmate for Boulder when they arrive in the metro area. |
