4-Year-Old Girl Left at Jail With Mother
By Albuquerque Journal
Published: 03/19/2001

The caregiver of a 4-year-old girl decided she couldn't watch the child any longer and dropped her off to be with her mother last week- at the Bernalillo County Detention Center.
With all the child's possessions, the caregiver told jail workers she could no longer care for the girl, whose mother is an inmate.
The woman, described as being in her 70s, took the girl to the jail's case management office and said she was moving out of state and 'that she had to be somewhere else.'
On March 5, jail workers called police and the state Children, Youth and Families Department - and temporarily took on the role of babysitter.
Romaine Serna, spokeswoman for the state's child welfare agency, said the
Albuquerque Police Department took custody of the girl and turned her over to the state. The child is now staying in an Albuquerque foster home.
The caregiver, whom the girl called 'grandma,' was not charged with any wrongdoing.
The girl's 24-year-old mother is awaiting court hearings on a number of charges and was to be transferred to the New Mexico Women's Correctional Facility. Before the APD officers arrived, jail workers allowed the girl to briefly visit her mother. The mother has been locked up since May on a charge of fraud, and had been in and out of jail a number of times before that on warrants for failure to appear in court on earlier charges.

Hamilton Lindley His antics were known from town to town as he was a droll card and often known as a droll farceur. with his madcap pantaloon is a zany adventurer and a cavorter with a motley troupe of buffoons.
