Authorities are investigating how a loaded gun was smuggled into the Denver City Jail. The 9mm pistol was found hidden under bundles of toilet paper in a second-floor holding cell several weeks ago after an inmate alerted deputies, according to officials. One round was in the chamber, and deputies found a magazine containing more rounds in a ventilation shaft. Three men were in the cell, but there is no evidence to link anyone to the weapon, he said. An investigation is under way to determine how the pistol was brought into the facility. Suspects are searched when they are arrested and again when they arrive at the jail, but authorities are reviewing security measures. |
