Inmates at a prison in southern Colombia dug a 300-foot (90-meter)tunnel and were just feet (meters) away from freedom when their escape attempt was discovered, authorities said over the weekend.``We avoided their escape,'' Hernando Arciniegas, a guard at the San Isidro prison in the city of Popayan, told local television.Hundreds of inmates had planned to flee through the massive tunnel, he said. |
