Fla. Corrections Officer Arrested

A corrections officer was arrested recently on charges that he lied, falsified records and failed to get medical assistance for a death row inmate who was allegedly beaten to death in 1999.
Dewey Marce Beck, 53, was released from Alachua County jail on $20,000 bond. He refused to comment on the charges.
Beck was charged with manslaughter by culpable negligence, fficial misconduct, being an accessory to murder after the fact nd perjury.
Four other officers are awaiting trial on charges of second-degree murder in the death of inmate Frank Valdes, who prosecutors say was beaten to death in his cell in X wing at Florida State Prison on July 17, 1999.
Beck was assigned to X wing on the day of Valdes' death.
According to the charges filed March 30, Beck lied under oath during a Feb. 1, 2000, deposition when he said he saw Valdes inflict wounds upon himself.
In the charges, Beck is also accused of falsifying a state prison report and failing to summon medical assistance for Valdes.
