The Association of Private Correctional and Treatment Organizations (APCTO), an industry trade association representing the interests of private correctional and treatment providers, other service and product providers, government officials and individuals interested in private corrections and treatment, has been established, it was announced today by Steve Logan, first President of the association, and CEO and President of Cornell Companies, Inc.
'Private correctional and treatment organizations, from both the for-profit and the nonprofit world, provide a growing list of services to government agencies and need to have a base for common process and outcome data, sharing of best practices and an opportunity to communicate with the media, elected officials and the public on important matters regarding the custody and treatment of those entrusted to our care,' Logan said in making the announcement.
APCTO is committed to bringing the strengths represented in the wide diversity of our industry together to:
* Improve the quality of our services and products.
* Further develop and maintain communication and understanding between private companies, public agencies and the nonprofit community, in order to better meet our common needs.
* Promote and make readily available accurate and useful industry research.
* Utilize the research data to gain a better understanding of the needs of our clients, offenders and patients, and to promote accuracy with respect to information provided to the media and the community.
* Positively impact public policy by bridging the information gap between the not for profit and for-profit community, our industry and government, media and the public.
'Private correctional and treatment organizations provide an additional resource to government agencies to carry out an essential governmental function. APCTO will serve as a voice for the quality of care and treatment that private providers deliver and demonstrate the value added by private providers. APCTO will also outsource research projects to well recognized and respected universities and research organizations,' according to Wayne Calabrese, President and COO, Wackenhut Corrections Corporation.
