Texas Inmates Found Hiding in Crawl Space

Three inmates were found trying to climb into the crawl space above a kitchen in the same Texas prison from which seven inmates made a high-profile escape in December, officials say.
The three inmates, all kitchen workers, were captured by a civilian kitchen supervisor Friday at the Connally Unit near Kenedy, said Larry Fitzgerald, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Authorities are treating it as an escape attempt but haven't decided whether to charge the men with trying to escape, Fitzgerald said, adding that the men might have been trying to avoid kitchen work.
Among the inmates was a man serving life in prison for capital murder and aggravated robbery.
In December, seven convicts escaped from the Connally Unit in a prison truck. The gang hid out for several weeks before being captured in Colorado, where they were posing as missionaries.
The ringleader, George Rivas, was convicted Tuesday of capital murder in the Dec. 24 death of an Irving police officer.
