The Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is making funds available to test new programs aimed at helping non-violent felons recover from their addictions. SAMHSA's Center for Substance AbuseTreatment (CSAT) plans to make $2 million available to support two awards to create programs that will improve treatment retention and outcomes, decrease non-violent criminal activity, reduce victimization, and reduce the stigma of non-violent criminal activity due to past addictions by increasing the number and percentage of non-violent offenders who have their records sealed. Funding for the 'Program Rehabilitation and Restitution' grants is limited to state or local governments, Indian tribes and organizations, and public and private nonprofits, such as community-based organizations and faith-based groups. Applicants should submit program designs that build on related programs, such as drug courts, community courts, alternative-sentencing programs, restorative-justice programs, or Treatment Alternatives to Safer Communities (TASC) programs. The deadline for applications is Nov. 5. Details regarding all SAMHSA funding opportunities are published in the Federal Register and may be found on the SAMHSA website, or by contacting SAMHSA's National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information, at1-800-729-6686 or TTD, 1-800-487-4889.Request the application for GFA Number: TI01-002. |
